Andy has produced, recorded, and/or mixed numerous records from jazz and rock to folk, Celtic, and blues, including the genre-bending Wayfaring Strangers critically acclaimed Rounder releases, the SpinART debut by independent rockers Apollo Sunshine, and a live album by the longtime bluegrass band Dry Branch Fire Squad, all using his Pro Tools HD system. He is currently Associate Professor of Music Production and Engineering at Berklee, and has also served as Assistant Chair of the Music Production and Engineering Department during his thirty-seven-year tenure at the College.

You create real hands-on music sessions following the lessons instead of just a manual that tells you what button to click on, or what keyboard command to use for something. I recommend cross referencing to the PT manual with each lesson, to get Avid's point of view on each subject. It's an excellent tutorial for musician types who "don't know what they are doing" as you indicated. If you can learn to drive a 2006 Ferrari, you can drive the 2011 model.

As an experienced Pro Tools user for many years, I can say there really isn't that much of a functional difference in PT 9 although it is more powerful, has different color scheme, has a few more features, and comes with more free plug-ins than it's predecessor versions. I'd like something mostly up to date.You're right that it was written for Pro Tools 7.4 LE several years ago, but it is not "out of date". I'm getting Pro Tools 9 which came out just a few months ago. It was published in 2006 and is for Pro Tools LE 7.
